The Spokane Shock signed Charles McCullum, who led the high-powered Carolina Cobras of the National Arena League the past two seasons under the current Shock head coach Billy Back. McCullum, while with the Cobras put up video game numbers, these numbers will knock your socks off. He passed for 6,193 passing yards and threw for 153 touchdowns. McCullum also had 6,317 total yards in his two seasons with the Cobras. As the starting quarterback for the Cobras, they went 22-11 and winning the NAL title in their inaugural season.
Before playing for the Cobras, McCullum played for the Wichita Falls Nighthawks from 2016-2017 under Billy Back. Yes, the same Billy Back, who was the head coach for the Cobras and now the head coach for the Shock. McCullum passed for 6,008 passing yards and 87 touchdowns while he was a Nighthawk. He was also the IFL MVP in 2016 and 2017.
Guess what, McCullum played under Billy Back again when he was the starting quarterback for the Nashville Venom in the Professional Indoor Football League from 2014-2015. Do these two follow each other around the country or what? The Hollywood movie writers should make a movie about this. While playing for the Venom, he led the Venom to back-to-back playoff appearances, including the league championship game his second season.
In his early indoor football years, McCullum played for both the Cedar Rapids Titans and the Seattle Timberwolves. He played collegiately at Stillman College and Florida A&M.
