According to Last Word On Sports and several other sources, former NAL Carolina Cobras head coach, and coaching veteran of arena/indoor football, Billy Back, is set to be the Head Coach of the IFL’s Spokane Shock. The Spokane Shock, a former AFL franchise, has yet to be officially announced by the IFL, but that announcement is coming soon.
On September 23rd, the Carolina Cobras announced the resignation of Billy Back as their Head Coach, and immediately the speculation began as to where he’d land. Before he began his coaching career, Back spent six seasons playing in the IFL, and also played in the NIFL. The Ohio native played college baseball at Miami University (Ohio). He went on to play professional baseball in the Pioneer League. In January 2012, Back was inducted into the Miami University Athletic Hall of Fame. Billy Back is no stranger to the sport of arena/indoor football, as he’s coached for the following teams over the years: Cincinnati Commandos, Texas Revolution, Nashville Venom, Wichita Falls Nighthawks, and most recently the Carolina Cobras. As the Cobras head coach, Back led the team to the Championship in their inaugural season in 2018, along with an appearance in the 2019 Championship game. Just this past season, Billy Back picked up his 100th Coaching Victory, which was on June 8th, versus the New York Streets.
Fans are encouraged to keep their eyes out for an official press release regarding the Spokane Shock’s entrance into the Indoor Football League, as the Billy Back head coach announcement is expected to be attached. Stay tuned for more details.
