The American West Football Conference (AWFC) has expanded to five teams with the addition of a Yakima, Washington based franchise. The team will be owned by Athletic Sports Enterprise (ASE) LLC. The team name and other information is yet to be announced, but expected in the near future. They’ll play at the Yakima SunDome, previously home to two other indoor football franchises, the Shockwave and Warriors. The Yakima Shockwave played one season in 2001 in the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) while the Yakima Warriors played one season in 2010 in the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA). The Warriors went 7-7 in their one season of existence good for fourth in the Western Division. The new Yakima franchise will be the third AWFC franchise in the state of Washington joining the Tri-Cities Fire and Wenatchee Valley Skyhawks. The other two teams from last season are the Reno Express and the undefeated defending champion Idaho Horsemen. The AWFC will enter it’s second year of play this spring. More expansion is expected in the near future so stay tuned as more news becomes available!
