Barnstormers Name Ismail as new Head Coach

Iowa Barnstormers Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, John Pettit announced that Ameer Ismail will the new Head Coach, effective immediately.

Ismail played for Western Michigan where he led the nation with 17 sacks and 25.5 tackles for loss. He is the current NCAA record holder in sacks and interceptions. After college, he had brief stints with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville. Afterward, he turned to the indoor game. He played linebacker in both, the AFL and IFL.

As a coach, he’s held the whistle since 2011.  He has experience coaching in high school, college, and indoor ball, with roles as  a strength and conditioning coach and defensive coordinator.

In 2018, he won NAL Coach of the Year honors when he took the Massachusetts Pirates to an 11-5 inaugural season.

Upon his hiring, Ismail said, “It is such an amazing honor to be named the new head coach of the Iowa Barnstormers, the most prestigious and historic team in all of indoor or arena football.”
